Tomatoes are disappearing from plates across the country, with prices reaching as high as Rs 250 in some areas. What could be causing this sudden disappearance?

The government kept 2.51 lakh tonnes of onion for buffer stock during 2022-2023 in order to stabilize the market price. When the season ends and the supply of onion in the market decreases, the price of onion usually increases. However, with this strategic stock, the government is able to keep the price low and prevent it from skyrocketing.

The government has already started preparations for the upcoming onion shortage. Large quantities of onions are being bought in order to prevent the same situation as with tomatoes. The government wants to ensure that there is no shortage of this essential vegetable come winter.

Tomatoes have become more expensive in India in recent days. The price of a kilo of tomatoes has increased from Rs. 120 to Rs. 130 in just a few days. This is likely due to the recent monsoon rains, which have caused a shortage of the fruit and vegetables .

This is in addition to the recent price hike of ginger, which is now being sold at Rs. 450 per kg in local market of inda .

due to the increase in the price of vegetables, people are facing a difficult time purchasing the necessary groceries for their families.
